The posted compensation range of $29.90 - $33.63 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Laboratory Assistant Phlebotomist EKG Technician, you will help our Clinical Lab Scientists and healthcare team by managing critical specimen flow and performing expert phlebotomy services so they can ensure accurate and timely diagnostic testing for all patients at Mark Twain Medical Center. This role is fundamental to the efficiency and quality of our clinical laboratory services.

Every day you will perform venipuncture and skin punctures on a diverse patient population across various hospital settings, including ER, Med/Surg, and outpatient clinics. You will be expected to facilitate and document the flow of all patient specimens, prepare them for automated processing, and manage daily billing/workload updates on the computer system, alongside handling clerical duties and providing training to new laboratory assistants.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a current Phlebotomist certification (PHLEB:CA) and have Basic Life Support (BLS-CPR) certification. Prior phlebotomy work or hospital-based experience is preferred, along with the ability to maintain a high level of concentration, attention to detail, and effectively interact with others, even with frequent interruptions.

  • Facilitates and documents the flow of all patient specimens into and out of the laboratory.
  • Prepares specimens and deliver to instrument workstations in preparation for processing on automated equipment by the Clinical Lab Scientists.
  • Completes all patient and client billing and updates the computer workload files each day
  • Following patient registration, meets and instructs patients in proper specimen collection techniques.
  • Performs venipuncture or skin puncture on all patients at any of the hospital drawing stations: ER, Med/Surg, Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital, San Andreas Convalescent Hospital, Outpatient, etc. and records their test and patient information in laboratory computer system.
  • Performs all clerical duties as requested by supervisor or laboratory need.

Required

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support, within 90 Days
  • Phlebotomist: CA


Preferred

  • High School Graduate General Studies or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant or Lab Assistant school
  • Any phlebotomist work or hospital experience
