The posted compensation range of $36.00 - $51.34 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Position Summary:
This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager. All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization. The Senior Accountant is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost effective manner. The Senior Accountant is responsible for producing monthly financial statements within multiple entities within the organization, quarterly and annually OSHPD reports, files tax returns and property taxes. Computes classified and records numerical data with a high level of accuracy in order to maintain accurate and complete financial records. Reports to leadership on separate operating results and reviews the results of financial related reports / statements.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviews journal vouchers and general ledger transaction journals to ensure their accuracy and take necessary action to correct errors. Makes special adjustments and accrual entries to the general ledger and reconciles account balances on a monthly basis. Initiates review and resolution of reconciling items.
- Conducts reconciliation's of patient accounts receivable, bank accounts, investment accounts and fixed asset accounts according to established procedures. Identifies and resolves any account discrepancies account discrepancies on a monthly basis.
- Reviews and analyzes asset, liability and fund accounts, and prepares a schedule of account balances on a monthly basis.
- Leads the preparation of organization's statements and reports for internal distribution and regulatory reporting according to UH-CHMC policies. Independently identifies and analyzes significant fluctuations in income, expense, asset or liability account balances, and reports findings to department manager on a monthly basis.
- Receives and answers correctly inquiries from management regarding account balances, financial trends, fluctuations in accounts and related information in a timely manner.
- Provides accurate information and assistance to the external auditors and facilitates the timely completion of the audit.
- Prepares quarterly and annual OSHPD reports in a timely manner.
- Completes all reports related to taxes such as tax returns, business property statements, etc in a timely manner.
- Assists in an accurate and timely manner the completion of Annual Operating and Capital Budgets.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7 years of related experience
- HS diploma or GED
- Proven knowledge of budgeting, accounting, financial operations, productivity, Microsoft applications (word, excel, etc.).
- Requires ability to communicate in English (verbal and written) for effective communication with executives throughout the organization.
- Ability to identify complex accounting practices and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Ability to accurately analyze and interpret financial data.
- Ability to work independently and utilize sound judgment to identify and resolve accounting issues.
- Ability to understand and apply capitation principles to monies received.
- Ability to understand and apply standard general ledger coding to revenues and expenses.
- Ability to understand and apply claims and authorizations concepts to patient related expenses.
- Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
- Understands and is able to apply general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to work independently to produce financials, variance explanations, account analysis, reports and self-auditing of work.
- Ability to identify issues and problems within administrative processes activities, and other relevant areas.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple internal departments as well as external organizations
- Must be attentive to detail, accurate, thorough, and persistent in following through to completion of all activities, demonstrating initiative for completing work assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in managed care or related healthcare setting preferred
- Experience working with Medicare payment concepts preferred
- Knowledge of medical claims processing preferred
- Knowledge of JD Edwards accounting systems preferred
- General knowledge of CPT and ICD9/ICD10 coding preferred
