The posted compensation range of $32.38 - $48.17 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary
This job is responsible for scheduling and supervising the daily operations associated with security and protection operations for the assigned shift, to provide for a safe, secure and protected environment for patients, visitors, employees and healthcare providers in accordance with established procedures and applicable requirements. An incumbent works the assigned shift, and is a first-line supervisor, assisting in the performance of work unit activities on an incidental basis. This is an unarmed position, with an incumbent carrying out both foot/mobile patrols as a deterrent to activities that violate security/safety procedures and participating in responses to specific incidents involving aggression, violence or emergency situations.
Work includes: 1) assuring that all activities are conducted in a cost-effective and efficient manner, meet customer needs and are compliant with internal policies/standards/procedures and applicable regulatory requirements; 2) supervising staff assignments for the shift (including security officers and "leads"), ensuring all work is performed efficiently and performance is according to established operating standards; and 3) problem-solving, troubleshooting and appropriate escalation of issues to higher-level management.
Close collaboration is required with customer-department management/staff in assuring their needs are met and that applicable procedures are understood and followed.
Essential Functions
Operations:
• Supervises the security operations of the assigned shift to ensure that all activities are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner and in accordance with professional standards, budget constraints, internal policies/standards/procedures, and/or applicable regulatory requirements; implements and enforces quality control/quality assurance and productivity standards; ensures that applicable standards, systems and procedures are understood and followed; monitors and audits related documentation to ensure conformance with established standards relating to timeliness and customer service; prepares incident reports, periodic productivity reports and program updates for review of higher-level authority.
• Participates in the development of, and implements, new/revised guidelines, procedures, processes and/or training materials in support of assigned function/work unit to facilitate regulatory compliance; ensures that employees understand and apply internal guidelines appropriately.
• Monitors work schedules to control overtime and/or premium pay; informs Director/Manager of all issues with potential for budgetary impact.
Staff Supervision:
• Schedules, prioritizes and oversees the work of assigned staff in accordance with established procedures; assists in identifying adequate staffing levels for appropriate coverage to meet budgetary and operational objectives; ensures that staff are qualified and properly trained to perform assigned job duties; in conjunction with higher-level management, interviews job candidates and recommends employment and other personnel decisions in accordance with established guidelines; orients employees and holds regular staff meetings to keep employees appraised of all matters relevant to successful job performance; approves timecards; communicates performance standards and participates, with higher-level management, in evaluating employee performance; counsels employees with regard to routine matters, providing constructive feedback and recognizing results achieved; participates in performance management activities and resolves security issues referred by subordinates as beyond their scope of authority.
Performance Improvement:
• Monitors and assesses current shift operations/services to identify opportunities and provide recommendations to Director/Manager for performance/process improvements; implements approved changes and ensures that shift staff receive the necessary on-the-job training to enhance their understanding of performance improvement initiatives.
Monitors Compliance:
• Interprets, and monitors compliance with, applicable internal/external legal and regulatory agreements, standards and requirements; keeps abreast of changing regulatory requirements/regulations impacting assigned functions, as well as organizational changes with potential to impact daily operations; monitors impact on existing activities and identifies/implements effective response/solution while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality.
Business Planning:
• Participates in business planning activities, including the implementation of work unit objectives/projects to address current and future needs to support achievement of business objectives.
Other Essential Duties:
• Makes periodic inspection tours through buildings, grounds, parking lots and other facilities to ensure security staff are following established guidelines; meets/communicates regularly with key customers to coordinate activities around their needs, optimizing the working relationship and proactively monitoring services provided; utilizes meetings, rounding, surveys, and analytical reports to evaluate and adjust services as needed to meet customer needs.
• Performs the work described in the CHI-FH Security Officer job description (Job Code 5390) as necessary (not to exceed 20% of the time).
Job Requirements
Education/Experience
- Four years of related work experience in security, loss prevention and/or law enforcement that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities OR
- Associates Degree in a discipline related to the duties of the position with two years of related work experience in security, loss prevention and/or law enforcement that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities OR
- Bachelors Degree in a discipline related to the duties of the position with one year of related work experience in security, loss prevention and/or law enforcement that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities
- Must be 21 years old to qualify
