The posted compensation range of $49.63 - $57.03 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Anesthesia Technician, you will provide critical support in the safe and efficient administration of anesthesia, assisting providers with equipment and supplies for diverse surgical and non-surgical cases.

Every day, you will prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment, supplies, and medications before, during, and after cases. This includes performing complex procedures under direction (e.g., setting up and assisting with line placement, intubation, extubation), managing supply inventory, room turnover, and patient positioning/transport.

To be successful in this vital role, you will demonstrate a thorough understanding of anesthesia equipment and sterile techniques, possess meticulous attention to detail, and exhibit excellent communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

  • Technical Skills: Demonstrates competency in psychomotor skills and technical procedures. Remains aware of patients level of consciousness at all times. Responsible for maintaining preference cards for each Anesthesiologist and updating card on a daily and PRN basis as appropriate. Responsible and accountable for anesthesia supplies and equipment. Checks operating room schedule daily and assembles supplies and equipment for each case using anesthesiologists preference cards. Assists in case preparation and distribution of supplies (i.e., anesthesia trays and obtaining/opening equipment to facilitate case preparation). Maintains supply par levels and inventory control, i.e. orders/maintains/ stocks all anesthesia supplies, equipment, trays and drugs (exception controlled substances) both stock and non-stock according to par levels. Works closely with anesthesiologists to improve efficiency/effectiveness of availability of supplies/equipment to assist in providing a safe anesthesia environment. Accountable for cleaning and/or exchange of anesthesia equipment in the operating room with proper disposal of used supplies, hazardous waste, sharps, etc., to facilitate case preparation and in accordance with the manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU). Provides anesthesiologist with specialty intubation supplies and equipment with little or no direction from other members of the surgical team. Functions a resource to other staff members as it relates to anesthesia equipment and equipment. Accountable for processing anesthesia blades following sterilization/ decontamination addenda incorporating CSPD processing standards as necessary per sterilization/disinfection addenda. Schedules appointments with sales representatives as appropriate. Informs OR Clinical Coordinator/Manager of any changes or new items available. Aware of basic troubleshooting techniques of the anesthesia machines, monitors and equipment and initiates repair calls as necessary. Responsible for set-up of anesthesia machine, monitors and anesthesia cart for any case needing an anesthetic in an area other than the Operating Room and assembles the gas scavenger system so the gases vent properly from room. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of and adherence to approved Autologous Blood Recovery Protocol/Procedure as assigned (facility specific). Demonstrates awareness of and communicates information related to patient/cell recovery to health care team, i.e., anesthesia informed of blood loss related to cell saver). Annually attends review inservices/meetings (exceptions per manager). Maintains cell saver according to procedure. Responds effectively in emergency situations.
  • ADVANCED SKILLS; Responds to Code Blue, Malignant Hyperthermia and assists with the Anesthesia care team. Assists with obtaining lab specimens and ABGs. Competent in the use of & quality assurance for Point of Care testing equipment. Operates cell salvaging, assists with intra-aortic balloon pump, as well as operation of this equipment, and TEE, as requested. Disinfects, reprocesses all equipment according to manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU). Has understanding of medications commonly used in anesthesia including: purpose, proper storage, generic and proprietary names and labeling requirements.
  • Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Documents on appropriate documentation form(s) according to established guidelines, i.e. Autologous Blood Recovery Form, Notification forms, etc.
  • Organizational Skills: Demonstrates appropriate organization, priority setting and problem solving skills.
  • Communication: Communicates clearly and effectively using proper communication etiquette. Understands and uses medical terminology accurately. Includes reporting abnormals or change in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Self Development: Demonstrates accountability for self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development. Participates in relevant inservice programs and continuing education activities.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an Accredited program in Anesthesia Technology with an AS degree, or OR certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT),as a Technologist and
  • Certification via ASATT and Certified Anesthesia Technologist
  • Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support


Preferred

  • Associates Other
  • Certificate of training for Anesthesia Delivery Unit (ADU) and 1-3 years Minimum 1 yr.experience in a Cardiac O.R. and/orTrauma Center
