Instrument Technnician

As our Instrument Technician, you would be accountable and responsible for decontamination, instrument recognition, set assembly, dispensing carts, sterilization and documentation in all medical center and clinics as required or assigned. May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations, (such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts) to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure.

As an Instrument Tech, you will ensure the availability, cleanliness, and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment.

Every day you will meticulously clean, sterilize, assemble, and inspect surgical instruments and trays, operating sterilization equipment and maintaining accurate records.

To be successful, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, a comprehensive understanding of sterilization principles, and efficiency in a fast-paced environment, ensuring all instruments are sterile and ready.

• Follows department and facility Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, for infection control by wearing proper attire for assigned area and maintain safe work environment by following universal precautions at all times.
• Using proper techniques at all times processes and decontaminates instruments and equipment.
• Based on department and facility Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, inspects, assembles and packages surgical instruments and equipment ensuring items meet end user expectations.
• Performs disinfection and sterilization of instruments and equipment, validates and documents appropriate parameters based on Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external.
• Performs routine testing and maintenance on equipment; washing, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment based on Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external.
• Per Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, completes all required documentation, communicating to department leader/designee any results not meeting established parameters.

• Completion of Certified Sterile Processing program. and Sterile Processing in an Operating Room and/or Endoscopy environment.
• Six (6) months experience (or when staffing is able to accommodate training, management will consider Instrument Techs who have graduated from an accredited sterile processing program program and completed an externship at Mercy San Juan Central Sterilization Department).
• Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech CSPDT-CBSPD or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Supervisor CSPDS or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Tech CSPDT.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
