The posted compensation range of $24.75 - $42.00 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary:
The Trauma Registrar II is responsible for the accurate collection, validation, interpretation of data related to trauma patients who meet the American College of Surgeons and the State of Colorado inclusion criteria. This position is a principle Registrar at an American College of Surgeons Level I or Level II center. This associate ensures accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma data. Assists in the performance improvement initiatives for Trauma Service, validates data and assists with registry reports and performance at the facility.
Job Responsibilities (essential functions)
• Abstracts clinical and demographic from the medical record and other sources on trauma patients and enters it into the trauma registry based upon the American College of Surgeons National
Trauma Data Standard, the State of Colorado and Trauma Data Dictionaries.
• Reviews patient records for events that meet audit filters and medical performance improvement indicators or otherwise indicate a need for review or action.
• Reviews and maintains productivity standards for the team per regulatory agencies and department guidelines.
• Evaluates the documentation of nursing staff/hospital providers and identifies missing data elements. Reconciles the data as the information becomes available.
• Provides input to interpret, monitor and evaluate policies, procedures, guidelines and standards pertaining to data use and management.
• Accurately conducts E coding, ICD and AIS coding on trauma patient abstracts.
• Actively monitors, identifies and reports trends with all data and reviews the Trauma Quality Improvement Program as it relates to the registry activities and mentors registry staff and reports
to trauma registry and program leadership.
• Provides input, interprets, monitors and evaluates Trauma Service performance utilizing established audit filters, patient outcomes and established benchmarks.
• May assist in compiling reports for regulatory agencies, participating institutions, and committees as directed by Trauma leadership. Identifies and sends data to approved hospital and state
authorities as directed. Provides ongoing maintenance and management of the trauma database and may upload data to the American College of Surgeons TQIP and the State of Colorado.
• Works autonomously and within a team environment ensuring effective communication with other staff regarding operational issues impacting the database.
• Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and processes.
• Assists with preparation for State and ACS certifications and verifications.
• Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops to remain current with industry changes.
• Maintains required certifications.
• Assists in training trauma registry staff.
• Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.
• Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.
• Adheres to all data security standards.

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Required
Associate Degree Preferred
Minimum Experience Requirements
Healthcare experience or previous coding experience, preferred
Strong organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience in the use of information technology including Microsoft Office software, Excel and PowerPoint
License/Certifications Requirements
Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Course from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine is required within 12 months
of hire/transfer.
Registrar Course from the American Trauma Society is required within 12 months of hire/transfer.
Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries from the American Trauma Society is preferred
Physical Requirements
