Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Associate Hospitalist Medical Director, you will join our well-established hospital-employed group at CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital, serving our campuses across the TN / GA market. This exceptional leadership opportunity allows you to drive clinical excellence within a regional healthcare leader, consistently recognized as the #1 Best Regional Hospital in Chattanooga by U.S. News & World Report for 11 consecutive years (and TN's #4), and holding a consistent 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group.

Every day you will serve as a pivotal leader, dually credentialed in TN/GA, ensuring that all patients receive the same exceptional standard of care across our three sites. You will bridge the gap between executive leadership and frontline clinicians, balancing  administrative oversight with clinical duties. Your focus will be on operational standardization, workflow optimization, and fostering a "just-culture" environment while effectively managing the clinical and professional needs of our physicians and APPs.

To be successful in this role, you will be a board-certified physician with strong leadership experience and a commitment to operational and clinical excellence. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Operations & Standardization: Standardize admission, discharge, and rounding workflows and EMR templatesto improve patient throughput and clinical quality.
  • Quality, Safety, & Peer Review: Serve as the primary lead for Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) conferences and peer review, while monitoring core performance metrics (Readmissions, HCAHPS, Mortality) to drive performance improvement plans.
  • Provider Leadership & Retention: Act as the first point of escalation for interpersonal conflicts, oversee the onboarding and integration of new talent, and facilitate monthly site meetings to maintain a cohesive culture.
  • Strategic Integration: Act as the liaison to specialty services to resolve bottlenecks and assist in monitoring departmental budgets, specifically focusing on variable labor and supply costs.
  • Tactical Administrative Oversight: Provide final sign-off on rotation schedules, draft standardized clinical protocols, and present "State of the Program" reports to the Hospital C-Suite.
  • Clinical Duties: Function as a hospitalist for 50% of your duties and provide coverage when necessary to ensure continuity of care.
  • KPI Management: Achieve measurable success in provider retention, reduction of Length of Stay (LOS) variance, and improvement in Documentation Accuracy (CMI and MCC/CC capture).
