The President, Physician Enterprise of the Market reports to the System SVP of PE Region with a dotted line report to the System SVP of PE COO. This position is responsible for strategy, IDN growth, and operational performance of the Physician Enterprise (PE) in the Market, grounded in the mission and vision of CommonSpirit Health and delivering on its Market-specific strategic, operational, and clinical priorities. The leader is responsible for driving engagement, buy-in, and alignment with market strategic growth and ensuring operational success through partnerships with key National, Region, and Market stakeholders.
This role oversees all market-level provider planning and physician and advanced practice alignment strategies, regardless of alignment type, while being accountable for the development of the employed Physician Enterprise. Together, these components will form an organized, well-managed integrated delivery network (IDN) providing high-quality clinical care and Humankindness while ensuring the effective implementation of systems, processes, and standards that support both the health system’s employed providers, both clinic and hospital-based, as well as the aligned providers.
As a leader with extensive experience working with large health systems, they will report directly to the PE Region Leader, dotted line report to the PE COO, and partner with the Market President, including participation in their executive cabinet and one of the key executives responsible for the growth of the market.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing and driving short and long-term Market strategy for physician and advanced practice IDN alignment; service lines; academic partnerships; provider-related negotiations for other delivery models; primary care strategy; and growth of the integrated delivery network. Champions and implement the national PE strategy and operations in their market in collaboration with national, regional, market, and care setting executives.
- Directly accountable for the Market’s Physician Enterprise operational and capital budgets. Establishes and communicates priorities and ensures goals are achieved.
- Responsible for Market physician and APP workforce planning, alignment strategies, and opportunity selection for the market for all alignment types, including employed, contracted, PSA, Joint Ventures, Academic Affiliations, On-call Contracts, Hospital-Based Services Contracts, CIN/Value-Based providers, community physicians, and independent providers. Partners with key stakeholders to manage the alignment selection process and ensures all physicians and APPs, regardless of type, are in alignment with the overall market strategy, national operations strategy, and changing needs of the market.
- Responsible for the Market’s provider and PE ambulatory strategy and operations including: development and optimization of the MBO practice structures; provider recruitment and retention in partnership with Talent Acquisition; PE staff recruitment and retention; ambulatory quality; integrating clinical data; implementing compliance and compensation standards; prioritization and standardization of performance and practice metrics for improvement and staff and leadership oversight and development. Actively engages PE System SVP of the Region, key region, market, and care setting stakeholders, physicians, medical groups, other leaders, and subject matter experts in the development and implementation of National, Regional, and local initiatives in the Market.
- Lead the effective operations of a network of hospital and clinic-based physician practices; leveraging CommonSpirit’s size, scale, and expertise to effectively implement systems, processes, and standards that enhance access, efficiency, value, and quality, while enhancing provider and patient experience. Responsible for strengthening clinical excellence and provider wellbeing to create a shared clinical vision and culture that will retain, attract, and inspire top talent.
- Optimizes clinical operations and/or provider-related negotiations in JV partnerships, M&A activities; facilitates execution of aligned strategy for academic alliances with national, regional, and market leaders; and represents the physician enterprise voice in market/local Payor Strategy.
- Partners with Value Hub leader to provide input on strategic direction for population health to the market in collaboration with PE Region Leader and National Population Health Leadership.
- Partners with National, Region, Market, and Care Setting executives to establish and oversee service line strategy, rationalization, and growth.
- Ensures accountability, credibility, effective communications, and active participation with boards, executives from national, regional, market, and care settings, central partners, program leaders, medical groups, academic partners, ACOs, CINs, medical staff, all types of aligned physicians, APPs, and staff.
- Develops a strong team, physician governance, physician leadership, and administrative leadership to accomplish operational and strategic goals. Accountable for the team’s success, supporting their growth, and directly accountable for a high level of employee engagement.
- In partnership with the PE National Executive Team, local Region, Market and Care Setting Leadership, Physician Leaders, Medical Group executives, Academic Partners, Business Partners, and other key stakeholders across the system: provides the leadership to develop, guide and facilitate the Market-level strategy and operations towards an integrated Clinical Enterprise ensuring outstanding results for all operational initiatives.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- A medical degree or a master's in health administration,administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of executive or senior healthcare leadership experience in a large, complex, multi-site, multi-area health care organization, including acute, ambulatory, and outpatient service delivery systems. Superior leadership experience cultivating high provider and employee engagement, and effective physician relationships. Demonstrated ability and experience: leading multi-specialty groups of physicians; working effectively in a matrixed organization and a dyadic leadership model.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Medical Degree or Master's in health administration, administration, or related field is required.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-specialty groups of physicians and ability to work effectively in a dyadic leadership model.
- Leadership experience in an extensive, complex integrated healthcare system.
- Superior leadership experience, particularly in cultivating a high-performing team, and in developing and maintaining excellent relations with physicians and staff at all levels.Track record of progressive development of ambulatory clinics and physician practices.
- Deep understanding of medical groups and all physician alignment structures
- Strong experience with leading and building out the continuum of care: hospitals, large medical groups, population health entities such as IPAs, and building out network integrity.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions, creation of various joint ventures, and other growth strategies
- Healthcare operational and financial acumen, knowledge, and experience leading complex and innovative delivery models.
- Experience working across the continuum of care and developing an IDN.
- Understanding and/or experience in population health (CIN, IPA, MSSP)
- Build a culture of continuous improvement and risk management
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
