The posted compensation range of $25.07 - $30.50 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
As our MIM Tech (Medical Information Management Technician), you will maintain accurate patient records to ensure medical record integrity, support clinical and medical staff members in providing patient care, and uphold strict confidentiality.
Every day you will perform a variety of tasks including filing, chart assembly, and retrieval of confidential medical records. You will also act as a legal clerk by processing subpoenas and patient requests. Furthermore, you will support medical staff functions through incomplete chart control, physician suspension for delinquent records, quality assurance audits, and coordination of transcription services.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in record keeping, a thorough understanding of medical record integrity and confidentiality, and strong organizational skills in managing various administrative and legal aspects of medical information.
- Chart Assembly: Assembly of patient records into proper order for processing accurately and according to established department procedures: Inpatient TCU : 10 per hour OPS: 20 per hour ER: 30 per hour
- Process incoming transcription. Inter-files transcribed reports from transcription into appropriate records, both in interim file as well as in-house patients on nursing units. Daily distributes transcription copies to appropriate physician's boxes. Daily verifies all outstanding preop H&P's, orders if necessary. Identifies priorities and communicates with transcription services. Surgery Schedule. Processes surgery schedule daily verifying pre-op H&P readiness. Verify previous anesthesia status for surgery schedule, orders records from off-site storage.
- Performs assigned clerical and filing tasks according to department procedures. Files completed health records in terminal digit order in permanent file, accurately and according to established departmental procedures. Is responsible for keeping permanent file shelves neat and properly spaced. Located, retrieves and delivers patient records to requesting party utilizing chart locator. Primary department phone coverage as assigned. Problem-solves and corrects medical records number discrepancies daily. Assemble and analyze for ER. Accurately distributes transcription and miscellaneous paperwork to the nursing units and the physician's boxes . Updating newborn names in Meditech. Distributes incoming and outgoing mail. Accurately monitors and orders stock and non-stock supplies . Ordering and processing storage charts.
- Analysis of patient discharges including inpatient, outpatient surgeries, TCU records for both completion accuracy with an error rate of less than 5%. Standard for chart analysis: Inpatient: 25 per day OPS: 40 per day TCU: 15 per day. Assemble and analyze for ER. Listening for H&P's and OP Notes. Locates and out-guides charts according to established procedure with a 98% accuracy rate. Accurately pulls and locates all incomplete records for each physician 95% of the time. Processes physician incomplete records appropriately, assisting physicians as needed for completion process. Remove and/or update physician deficiencies (40 charts/hour) according to established procedure with a 98% accuracy rate. Provide weekly phone calls to physicians regarding their impending suspension according to established procedure. Prepares the official suspension list each week with a 99% accuracy rate. Updates suspension list as needed in accordance with established department procedure. Collection of data for departmental audits.
- Ensures all requests/subpoenas are valid and comply with current state and federal laws. Coordinates copying of designated parts of the record with outside copy agencies insuring availability of records at date and time specified by subpoena 98% of the time. Logs all requests into Meditech system with no more than one discrepancy per quarter. All monies totaled as necessary and forwarded to the Business Office. Processes patient requests for medical records within 5 working days.
Job Requirements
Required
- One to two years experience working in a healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred
- Computer skills (Windows, Microsoft products and Meditech)
