The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $28.09 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), you will be a cornerstone of patient care, directly contributing to comfort, safety, and recovery by providing essential support under RN direction.

Every day, you will deliver compassionate basic care, assist with patient transport, and actively contribute to the patient's plan of care as a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, upholding the highest standards of conduct and patient well-being.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a dedicated spirit of service, strong communication skills, a meticulous approach to patient support, and an unwavering commitment to our mission of dignified, high-quality healthcare.

  • Demonstrates ability to assess/interpret age-specific data. Encourages involvement of patient/family/significant other in decision making related to plan of care. Maintains a safe patient environment: puts side rails up ensures patient floor is clean/dry prior to patient ambulation, maintains a neat and orderly patient environment, reports safety concerns to licensed nurse monitors visitors/visitor control, ensures that call light is within patient's reach, ensures that basic necessities are within patients reach. Contributes to patient safety: fall risk (side rails, wheelchair brakes, use of patient walker/cane, patient footwear), choking risk (listens for and responds to sounds of choking), reports safety concerns to licensed nurse. Demonstrates self safety by: using PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment) when indicated, Using appropriate lifting devices and asking or calling for assistance as needed.
  • Sitter Related safety Issue: Demonstrate safety by: able to do 1:1 observation of Violent/self destructive patient, able to verbalize on how to clear patient`s immediate environment from any unsafe items, able to document on Direct observation log and report and identify and behavioral concerns to the primary nurse.
  • Reviews assignments with assigned Licensed Nurse to plan care for the patient bathing, oral hygiene, basic skin care, positioning, vital signs, feedings, activity. Demonstrates technical capability with specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
  • Performs patient weights and measurements and accurately records in the medical record reports abnormal vital signs to team leader and accurately records the results
  • Observes and reports signs, symptoms and changes in the condition of the patient to the primary nurse notifies the Primary Nurse of patient observation findings in a time frame appropriate to the patients condition. Records on the Flow Sheet all pertinent observations and actions completed for that shift. Responds within five minutes to patient requests answers all patient call lights. Communicates to the primary nurse if unable to respond in a timely manner. Encourages and assists patients to attend daily activities, therapies as patient condition permits and treatment plan specifies. Recognizes the need for and facilitates family/significant other involvement. Performs patient care duties in a timely manner that is perceived as satisfying to the customer. Utilizes specified therapeutic equipment as directed by the Licensed Nurse. Verifies appropriate diets, serves trays and assists with feeding as directed by the Licensed Nurse. Provides assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations, as indicated or requested by the Physician or Licensed Nurse. Initiates cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as indicated in emergency situations.
  • Assists in patient transport and patient care and supply management, as assigned by the Licensed Nurse. Assists in maintaining a clean, neat kitchen. Respects the patient's cultural beliefs and practices. Approaches conflict and new ideas with an open mind. Meets the needs of the customers/patients and fulfills the mission and values of SMMC. Delivers a full range of services with the mindset of never passing off what you can do as effectively yourself. Shows accountability and responsibility for high quality and low cost services. Promotes a climate of continuous improvement. Understands, manages and responds to customer needs, so that every experience meets or exceeds their expectations.
