The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $25.87 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), you will be a cornerstone of patient care, directly contributing to comfort, safety, and recovery by providing essential support under RN direction.

Every day, you will deliver compassionate basic care, assist with patient transport, and actively contribute to the patient's plan of care as a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, upholding the highest standards of conduct and patient well-being.

  • PATIENT RIGHTS:
    Demonstrates an understanding and respect of patient rights and responsibilities. Provides care in a manner that is cognizant of, and respectful towards the religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic belief systems of the patient and their identified family structure. Obtains translation services for oral communication in the patient's primary language as needed; documents services utilized in the patient records. STANDARDS 1.Competency and appropriate care regarding religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic belief systems of the patient/family is assessed by one or more of the following: direct observation, listening and auditing of documentation for the use of interpreters services. 2.There are no serious occurrences of valid patient or family complaints regarding privacy or confidentiality. 3.There are no breaches of the facilities policy and procedures regarding patient rights
  • PATIENT ASSESSMENT:
    Data Collection Data collection is done in accordance with and within timeframes specified in MMC polices. Recognizes normal and expected findings appropriate to the developmental age (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) of the patient. Recognizes significant abnormalities and intervenes in a developmentally age appropriate (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) manner and reports them to the RN. Collects information to contribute to database to identify patient's high risk for falls and/or skin breakdown. Utilizes appropriate developmental age (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) tools and criteria in the assessment of pain. Performs care within the scope of the CNA as directed by the nurse. Provides for patient safety and comfort, practices infection and environmental control. Prioritizes tasks based on patient needs. Participates in patient safety goals & quality initiatives. Understands and can apply criteria to detect possible victims of abuse. 
  • PATIENT AND FAMILY EDUCATION:
    Reports to the RN/LVN any perceived significant learning needs, barriers to learning, learning and language preferences. Educates the patient and family regarding rounding, plan for the day or ADL's. Educates the patient and family to room, visitation policy and nursing routine upon admission. STANDARDS 1.Educates patient and their family regarding visitor policy. 2.Developmental age competency is assessed by one or more of the following methods: direct observation, listening and auditing of documentation. 3.Cultural & Linguistic competency is assessed by one or more of the following: direct observation, listening and auditing of documentation for the use of interpreters services.
  • CONTINUUM OF CARE:
    Transmits patient specific data and/or information among and between members of the healthcare team in an accurate & timely manner to promote continuity of care within and between levels of care. Understands and utilizes the chain of command effectively as needed. Documentation is accurate and completed in a timely fashion. Participates in the Dignity Health Care Management Initiatives and completes the required tasks and documentation (i.e. Nursing Bundle, patient care rounds). STANDARDS 1.Ensures accurate documentation of information transmitted among and between health care team members 95% of the time based on random chart review. 2.There are no occurrences of valid serious complaints or incident reports of failure to contribute or to collaborate with the other health care team members.
  • COMPETENCIES:
    Department Specific Equipment Competencies a.Blood pressure equipment (electronic & manual) b.Lift equipments c.Telemetry Boxes & EKG Leads d.Beds and scales e.Sequential Compression Devices (apply, remove & care) f.Thermometers (automatic and manual) g.Restraints (apply & remove) STANDARDS 1.There is no evidence of lack of knowledge based upon a random sample review of charts, event reports and valid complaints. 2.There are no refusals or failure to use equipment as indicated.
  • HIPAA:
    Basic expectations of the Employee based upon Corporate HIPAA compliance: Patient Privacy: Demonstrates work place practices that maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Consistently follow regulatory, JCAHO, Dignity Health, and hospital policy requirements relating to the disclosure of and/or access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Review Network Usage Policy and signed acknowledgment form annually. Patient Information Security: Demonstrates work place practices that maintain the security of protected health information including maintaining PHI in a secure work environment, reporting suspected breaches of PHI security to Management or Privacy Offices, and following all policies and regulatory requirement for the safeguarding of PHI.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Nurse Assistant certification, upon hire or completion of a nursing fundamentals class, and are currently enrolled in nursing school, upon hire or a graduate from a nursing program, upon hire, and
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: CA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire - we accept the American Heart Association

Preferred

  • Minimum of six months of experience in acute care or skilled facility.
