The posted compensation range of $25.55 - $38.00 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
- Coordinates all aspects of Medical Staff Department and Committee meetings to assure compliance with the function of the Medical Staff as outlined in CMS, Joint Commission, and California Title 22 standards, Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.
- Ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies in regards to credentialing while developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the statutes and laws. Manages focused professional practice evaluation and proctoring process.
- Processes biannual reappointment of physicians by verifying current licensure, malpractice insurance, and DEA certification at the primary source. Manages the ongoing professional practice evaluations of the Medical Staff and Allied Professional Staff.
- Maintains Credentialing Database with information verified at primary source and updates expiring insurance, licenses, and certificates. Coordinates, disperses, and archives the EMTALA Call Schedules according to CMS standards.
- Creates and provides reports to the System Office, departments within the hospital, and to outside agencies as requested. Maintains strict HIPAA standards of the medical staff credential file. Receives and processes applications to the Medical Staff as outlined in the CMS and Joint Commission Standards.
- Assures that CME activities comply with the ACCME Standards and the CMA IMQ Standards.
Essential Functions:
Schedules, plans, coordinates, attends, records, and transcribes minutes at assigned Medical Staff meetings and committees in accordance with division policy and Medical Staff Bylaws.
Records and transcribes minutes in a timely and accurate manner.
Attends all medical staff committee meetings and others as assigned
Provides regulatory information and other guidelines to members of committees as needed
Prepares agendas and meeting packets for various committees and distributes them on a timely basis
Disseminates information and follows up on a timely basis as a result of Medical Staff Committee meetings. Prepares follow-up correspondence and notifications as required
Prepares and expedites follow-up correspondence between departments, committees, and hospital staff resulting from the same meetings.
Tracks peer review events and trended data for physician credentialing. Coordinates with physicians to ensure proper charts are brought forward to the Medical Staff Committee for review. Enters data into computerized database
Job Requirements
Minimum:
Three years as a medical staff secretary/coordinator, either in a hospital or for a large medical group.
Four years of secretarial experience, one year of which must be in a hospital administrative support position.
Formal training/education in secretarial, medical transcription skills through business or community college may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience on any of the above options.
Ability to take and summarize the same notes into minutes.
Type at a corrected rate of 50 words per minute from clear copy from a computer keyboard.
Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
- Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS)
- High school graduate or equivalent
- College degree
- Knowledge of medical terminology
