Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of the Education and Wound & Ostomy Care Department, the Program Manager for Wound &  Ostomy Care serves as a clinical resource providing expert direction and support for care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems, such as draining wounds, ostomies, fistulae, pressure injuries, tubes and incontinence and other skin disorders. Responsible for patient care, quality initiatives and compliance. 

  • Responsible for improving, monitoring, documenting, reporting and collaborating with leadership and staff concerning the care and support of patients with the conditions/disorders listed in the summary.
  • Is responsible for daily program oversight including patient evaluations, staff education and training, maintaining hospital policies related to skin, wounds, and ostomies, gathering, analyzing and reporting of quality data related to skin and wounds, and collaborating with unit leaders and staff to support quality improvement efforts.
  • Provides unit leadership with pertinent information to be able to hold staff accountable for appropriate risk assessment, implementation of prevention measures, skin/wound/ostomy assessment and management.
  • As directed, evaluates referrals for wound skin and ostomy patients, including the initiation of negative pressure wound therapy, and collaborates with the provider to initiate an appropriate treatment plan
  • Informs the department manager of any complex wound or ostomy management problems and potential barriers
  • Serves as a role model and clinical expert for all members of the healthcare team. Promotes the practical use of scientific data and principals. Problem solves to resolve patient care, quality and program issues.
  • Assesses patient and family learning needs, and barriers to learning, to develop a teaching plan for the patient with an ostomy, skin or wound care problem.
  • Works with other wound care and education department team members to develop and provide evidence-based staff education regarding pressure injury prevention, wound/skin/ostomy care.
  • Leads the hospitals skin team by providing these nurses with ongoing education and training
  • Creates and updates hospital wound care protocol, competencies and policies & procedures related to skin, wound, ostomy, negative pressure wound therapy, and speciality beds
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications
  • One (1) year of recent experience as a Wound Care RN preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required
  • Wound Care Certification (WCC) or Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) certification is preferred
  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current RN California License.
  • CurrentAHA BLS certification required.
  • LA City Fire Safety card required within 90 days of hire
