Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care within the perioperative setting. This professional position requires a deep commitment to the organization's vision and values, focusing on achieving high levels of customer satisfaction in a cost-effective manner, always upholding respect and dignity.

  • Clinical Excellence: Apply advanced clinical knowledge and nursing judgment to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care, ensuring adherence to the nursing process.
  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain strict adherence to all hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulatory standards (including the Nurse Practices Act), infection control, safety protocols, and the Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and evolve patient-centered care plans, ensuring seamless transitions and optimal outcomes.
  • Patient Advocacy & Education: Actively involve patients in their care plan, providing education based on identified needs and advocating for their active participation throughout hospitalization.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications safely and accurately, monitor patient responses, and initiate appropriate interventions according to policy.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance and leadership to team members, prioritize nursing interventions, and serve as a preceptor and role model for new staff and nursing students.
  • Documentation & Communication: Accurately document and promptly communicate all relevant patient observations, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in condition to the appropriate team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Professional Conduct: Exhibit a professional and cooperative demeanor with all team members, utilizing appropriate communication channels.
  • On-Call Responsibilities: (If applicable) Be available for urgent and emergent on-call cases, as required by departmental needs and schedule.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year current acute care registered nursing experience in OR speciality area required
  • Graduate of Accredited RN School of Nursing.
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program.
  • BSN required.
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program. Compliance with all statutes, regulations, and institutional policies relevant to RNFAs as defined by the hospital medical staff criteria.
  • Registered Nurse with current California License required.
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • LA City Fire Card required  within 90 days of hire.
  • Certificaiton in perioperative nursing  (CNOR) is preferred
  • Current certification in specialty area: certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) is preferred .
  • Experience with EHR )Cerner, MediTech, etc) Preferred.
