The posted compensation range of $19.87 - $28.06 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Paramedic, you will provide advanced emergency medical care and transport to critically ill or injured patients in pre-hospital and inter-facility settings.

Every day you will rapidly assess scenes, evaluate conditions, and administer life-saving interventions, while safely operating emergency vehicles and documenting care.

To be successful, you will demonstrate expert clinical skills, exceptional critical thinking under stress, and compassionate communication, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Functions within the scope of practice of a Paramedic as defined within Nebraska and Iowa state regulations and listed in the Approved Skills and Procedures for Licensed EMS Providers document. This position does take a patient assignment, but must be overseen by an RN.

  • Provides direct patient care and emergency interventions within scope of practice, including administering medications (excluding high-risk medications), oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, EKGs, blood glucose testing, IV/IO/EJ access, Foley catheterization, wound care, splinting, bandaging, immobilization, CPR, intubation under direct physician supervision, and other approved EMS skills and procedures.
  • Assesses, monitors, and documents patient status by performing reassessments, recording vital signs, treatments, medications, and clinical observations in the electronic medical record (EMR), consulting with supervising nurses and physicians regarding patient condition and treatment needs.
  • Responds to emergency situations and supports trauma care by participating in code and trauma activations, assisting with patient extrication, spinal stabilization, transportation, and delegated patient care activities under the direction of registered nurses and emergency department physicians.
  • Facilitates patient flow and operational support through patient transport within the Emergency Department and hospital campus, independent transport to inpatient units, order entry as directed, and assistance with obtaining patient demographic and billing information.
  • Maintains compliance with clinical standards and organizational policies by adhering to established scope-of-practice limitations, patient confidentiality requirements, CHI Health policies and procedures, quality improvement initiatives, and reporting patient care or practice concerns to appropriate leadership.
  • Promotes a professional, patient-centered environment and ongoing professional development by demonstrating excellent customer service, maintaining positive relationships with patients and staff, attending required meetings and training, completing continuing education requirements, and providing care for assigned patients under RN supervision within approved acuity levels and competencies.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Current Nebraska Paramedic (EMT-P) licensure required upon hire.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification or BLS Instructor certification required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or ACLS Instructor certification required within six months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or PALS Instructor certification required within six months of hire.
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements in good standing throughout employment.


Preferred

  • Previous clinical experience in an Emergency Department or hospital setting is preferred
