Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Cardiac Rehab and Stress Lab RN at CHI St. Joseph’s Health, you will play a vital role in both the recovery and the diagnostic phases of cardiac care. You will help patients strengthen their health following cardiac events while also performing critical diagnostic cardiac stress testing. Whether supporting patients through individualized rehabilitation plans or conducting exercise/pharmacological stress tests to identify cardiac abnormalities, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care in a highly collaborative clinical environment.

Your ability to assess patient needs, interpret complex cardiac rhythms, and build trusting relationships will directly support positive outcomes and a safe clinical experience. Your clinical judgment, technical proficiency, and patient-centered approach will be essential in guiding patients through both their diagnostic journey and their long-term recovery.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need strong cardiac nursing knowledge, excellent EKG interpretation skills, and the ability to handle both acute diagnostic testing and long-term patient motivation with empathy and professionalism. You will work effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic continuity of care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Stress Lab Operations: Prepare patients for and conduct cardiac stress tests (including treadmill/exercise and pharmacological tests). Monitor patient safety, interpret EKG changes during peak stress, and assist providers in identifying diagnostic indicators.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for patients participating in cardiac rehabilitation programs.
  • Clinical Monitoring: Monitor patients during both stress testing and exercise sessions—including continuous EKG/rhythm monitoring, vital signs, symptom assessment, and physiological response to activity—responding immediately to clinical changes or emergencies.
  • Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education related to cardiac health, diagnostic procedures, risk factor reduction, exercise, nutrition, medications, and lifestyle modification.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cardiologists, rehab staff, and interdisciplinary team members to support diagnostic findings, treatment plans, and continuity of care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, stress test results, nursing interventions, and patient progress within the electronic health record in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe, sterile, and therapeutic environment while promoting high-quality clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and a positive, supportive patient experience.
