The posted compensation range of $73.60 - $91.68 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

As our Lead Clinical Lab Scientist, you will help the laboratory team and management by overseeing technical and scientific operations within your assigned specialty and performing a full range of laboratory tests, so they can ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant diagnostic services for patients.
Every day you will evaluate and maintain the competency of testing personnel, monitor laboratory performance, and manage quality control programs. You will be expected to develop and update standard operating procedures, investigate and resolve technical issues, and provide essential training and mentorship to staff.
To be successful in this role you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of laboratory information systems (LIS) and hospital information systems (HIS), and a meticulous attention to detail in data analysis and problem-solving. Your ability to adapt to changing situations, prioritize tasks effectively, and maintain a professional demeanor will be crucial.
- Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Screens individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass.
- Maintains a valid California License as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
- Identifies training needs and assures that each individuals performing tests receive regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed. Actively participates in the orientation of new staff and coordinates student training schedule.
- Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel and assures that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.
- The procedures for evaluation of the staff must include, but are not limited to; i) direct observations, ii) monitoring the recording and reporting of test results, iii) review of intermediate test results or worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventive maintenance records, iv) direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks, v) assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing samples or external proficiency testing samples and vi) assessment of problem solving skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge and operation of the Laboratory (LIS) and the Hospital (HIS) computer system. This includesvalidating, recording and reporting tests results in a timely manner.
