The posted compensation range of $170.27 - $238.38 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Market CFO, you will strategically coordinate facility processes with centralized finance to ensure a robust internal control environment, safeguarding assets and producing timely, consistent, and accurate financial information crucial for effective decision-making.

Every day you will communicate financial results to all relevant stakeholders in a clear, concise, and timely manner, serving as the primary accountable hospital liaison for the facility's Revenue Cycle. This involves proactively identifying areas for improvement, implementing best practices, and ensuring optimal financial performance from patient services to payment.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional financial acumen, profound leadership in establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, and superior communication skills required to articulate complex financial data effectively.

  • Oversees budgeting and long term financial planning for the hospital in order to achieve the organization's mission and vision through short-term and long-term goals.
  • Represents the organization and its directors and officers in hospital-related financial affairs, including the presentation of financial results and complex industry and regulatory issues impacting the hospital and its related entities. Accountable for the content and professionalism of the hospital's business plans.
  • Participates as a contributing leader in the hospital's strategy and business development functions and activities.
  • Participates in the preparation and execution of policies, procedures and plans required for effective hospital operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Owns market operational finance performance management at the business-unit level, provides insights, measures success, and coaches leadership on improvement opportunities
  • Provides support to Region CFO for region and national finance meetings and reviews
  • Partners with FP&A and FISA to conduct and interpret financial analysis to support FP&A decision making
  • Translates/communicates business unit initiatives to organization and drives accountability assigned to Executive
    Sponsors and Champions
  • Serves on region and national committees as assigned
  • Coaches front line business unit managers on operational finance principles
  • Supports development of business unit and/or service line plans/budgets/forecasts, including all specific
    assumptions and supporting analysis
  • Coordinates with the Region to ensure key insights are incorporated into planning process, and outcomes are
    clearly defined and communicated back to executive sponsors and champions
  • Collaborates with business unit operational leaders to gather inputs, validate assumptions, and develop action
    plans for meeting financial targets
  • Partners with Region leadership to develop in-depth understanding of business unit risks and opportunities; and
    incorporate these into the planning process
  • Participates in Region forecast meetings as needed
  • Ensures proper recording and compiling of data and reporting cost to 3rd party payers for correct reimbursement
    of provided patient care, and producing feasibility studies
  • Provides staff support ensuring organization compliance with applicable government and regulatory requirements
  • Participates as a member of market executive team on a variety of committees engaging in activities such as
    achieving enterprise wide strategic and operational goals
  • Serves as local market liaison guiding key revenue cycle metrics and influences revenue cycle functions in areas
    including local appropriate charging activities in and around charge master along with pre-access, coding, billing,
    and collections
  • Other liaison duties as assigned such as but not limited to finance input on supply chain support, LOS, labor
    productivity, facilities and construction, payor strategy, and real estate

Job Requirements

Required

  • Masters Other Finance, Business Administration, CPA, or relateddiscipline and Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive/combined in healthcare finance and management., upon hire and
  • Minimum of five (5) years of management experience.

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant: CA, upon hire

The Market CFO for Central Coast is responsible for the 7 CA Central Coast Hospitals. This role also includes serving as the facility CFO for both Sequoia Hospital and Dominican Hospital - Santa Cruz.

Founded in 1950, Dignity Health - Sequoia Hospital is a 208-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Redwood City, California. Serving over 50,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including heart care, stroke care, and a birthing center. Additionally, Sequoia Hospital has been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. It is a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, and recently was awarded the AMA/ASA’s Get the Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement, recognizing the hospital’s commitment to providing the best stroke care. It was recently named a Leapfrog 2025 Top General Hospital.

At Dominican Hospital, we have been caring for the Santa Cruz County community since 1941. We provide quality-focused, comprehensive care in all our services. These range from the county’s only cancer center and heart attack (STEMI) receiving center, a dedicated family birth center and an onsite Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
