The posted compensation range of $36.23 - $44.37 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Patient Registration Representative, you will ensure a positive patient experience during registration, employing excellent customer service.

Every day you will identify patients, collect accurate demographics, verify insurance, determine/collect financial liability, and explain hospital policies and patient rights to families.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional customer service, meticulous attention to detail in data/insurance, and strong communication, crucial for patient satisfaction and reimbursement.

  • Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Screens individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass as necessary.
  • Answers telephones using name, department, and title. Screens calls appropriately and refers callers to the correct staff member, patient, department, and /or resource in a timely manner. Makes every attempt to answer phones within three rings. Monitors time individuals may be on hold and reassures them their calls have not been forgotten. Takes clear, accurate, concise phone messages. Consistently available to answer phones. Seeks coverage when away from the work area. Understands the appropriate action to take in an emergency
  • Relays messages in a timely manner, opens and delivers mail as appropriate
  • Provides clerical support within the department. Asks questions in advance to gain clear understanding of the admitting/registration process and/or special projects. Completes assignments accurately and within the agreed time frame.
  • Verifies insurance benefits on all assigned scheduled admissions and outpatient services, at least 3 days prior to date of service when possible, by using electronic verification systems or by contacting payers directly, to determine the level of insurance coverage and documents accurately in the system. Verifies insurance benefits on all urgent/emergent admits within 24 hours of service (or next business day) by using electronic systems or by contacting the payer. Verifies patient liabilities with payers during the preregistration, where possible. Determines patient financial responsibilities at time of service and collects copayments, deductibles, and coinsurance or deposit amounts in accordance with system's cash control policies at the time of service.
  • Assures timely and accurate entry of patient information into the computer system, including ensuring that all appropriate and necessary insurance information is verified and documented. Demonstrates thorough working knowledge of insurance plans and government programs and how to apply them through the emergency registration and/or inpatient admitting process. Thoroughly understand State and Federal EMTALA regulations. Demonstrates understanding the Emergency Information and Consent to Treatment form Part 1 and Part 11and how it relates to EMTALA regulations.

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One year hospital and/or emergency department patient registration experience and three years of patient registration experience in a non-acute setting may be substituted for the hospital and/or emergency department experience


Preferred

  • Two years hospital and/or emergency department registration experience
