As our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Float Pool, you will serve as a vital member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing essential support across various clinical units. You will be the cornerstone of the patient experience, working under the direction of Registered Nurses to deliver high-quality, compassionate care that promotes patient recovery, comfort, and safety in an acute care hospital environment.
Every day you will serve as an advocate for your patients by maintaining their physical well-being and clinical stability. By maintaining meticulous records and utilizing AIDET principles, you will ensure that every patient interaction reflects our hospital’s commitment to excellence and compassionate, dignified care.
To be successful in this role, you will possess a dedicated spirit of service and the ability to adapt quickly to the unique needs of different hospital units. You must demonstrate strong communication skills, an unwavering attention to detail when reporting changes in patient status, and the physical stamina required to provide consistent, high-level support in a fast-paced medical setting.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Monitoring: Accurately record and report vital signs, daily weights, and intake/output levels; immediately escalate any concerning changes in patient condition (e.g., blood pressure, mental status, or cardiac rhythm) to the RN.
- Patient Advocacy & Support: Provide comprehensive care for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and catheter care, while ensuring patients are turned and repositioned every two hours to maintain safety.
- Float Pool Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and clinical competency while transitioning between various hospital departments to support high-census units and ensure consistent patient care standards.
- Patient Satisfaction (AIDET): Act as a role model for the hospital’s patient satisfaction goals by consistently demonstrating the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) communication model with patients, families, and staff.
- Nutritional & Procedural Assistance: Assist patients with nutritional needs, including feeding assistance and preparing naso-gastric tube feedings, while providing support for surgical prep and other clinical procedures as assigned.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Maintain clear, professional communication with the RN team and other healthcare providers to ensure the patient’s plan of care is executed efficiently and in accordance with hospital policy.
