Responsibilities

Community Educator – St. Bernardine Medical Center

At St. Bernardine Medical Center, we believe that health begins in the community. We are seeking a passionate and resourceful Community Educator to connect with local residents, provide valuable health education, and ensure access to essential resources that improve quality of life.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted bridge between our organization and the community, implementing evidence-based programs, facilitating workshops, and conducting outreach that meets people where they are. You will develop strong relationships with individuals, community groups, and partner organizations, while tailoring your outreach to be culturally sensitive, relevant, and accessible. Your work will directly support healthier communities and advance our mission to provide care for the whole person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to engage community members through innovative, accessible methods.
  • Build and maintain relationships with residents, local organizations, and community leaders.
  • Develop, distribute, and present culturally competent health education materials and programs.
  • Facilitate health education classes, events, and workshops in person and virtually.
  • Maintain a current directory of local resources, services, and access points.
  • Collect and maintain data, track participation, and prepare reports to measure program impact.
  • Provide referrals and link individuals to appropriate health and support services.

Qualifications
  • Two years of college education or equivalent work experience related to the field
  • Associate’s Degree
  • CA Driver License and automotive insurance 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of computer operations, including email, internet, online collaboration platforms (Google), and video conferencing software (Zoom). Strong oral/written communication skills, collaborative work style, and cultural humility.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, be flexible, and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills to work
    effectively with a wide variety of people and populations by consistently exercising tact, good judgment, and utilizing a proactive, problem-solving focused style. Ability to work from a public health and social justice lens to promote holistic wellbeing and evidence-based initiatives among people of diverse cultural, educational, social, and economic backgrounds.
    Ability to understand and respond to community needs by collaboratively identifying appropriate strategies for programs’ implementations. Presentation skills-- experience speaking
    in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly, including group facilitation.

  • Preferred experience conducting outreach and supportive service delivery.
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in health education/community health/ public health.
  • Preferred Bilingual English/Spanish
