Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist – St. Bernardine Medical Center

At St. Bernardine Medical Center, we are committed to excellence in patient care and laboratory science. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist to oversee daily operations in designated sections of our Clinical Laboratory while performing high-quality testing that supports accurate diagnosis and treatment.

In this leadership role, you will coordinate administrative, technical, and quality processes to ensure your section operates efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards. You will also serve as a role model for exceptional customer service, supporting our mission and core values while mentoring and guiding staff toward excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of assigned laboratory section(s), ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Perform and evaluate qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests, reviewing results for accuracy, reasonableness, and clinical significance.
  • Communicate critical values promptly, documenting actions and escalating questionable results to the Medical Director.
  • Review quality control data, address variances, and proactively manage instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Recommend and implement new procedures or instrumentation, overseeing correlation studies, linearity, and reference value validations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and support to laboratory staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a chemical or biological science

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in POCT and MIcrobiology.

  • CA CLS license or CA limited license in specific section

  • Detailed knowledge, skills, and training in specific section’s theory and methods.

  • Skilled multi-tasker, clear communicator, and active listener who knows the right questions to ask in order to understand the teams’ needs.

Preferred Experience:

  • Lead experience in the specific section
