Responsibilities

Medical Laboratory Technician – St. Bernardine Medical Center

At St. Bernardine Medical Center, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and advancing the health of our community. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our laboratory team and play a key role in delivering accurate and timely diagnostic testing.

In this role, you will perform waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or physician, supporting clinicians with critical information for diagnosing and treating patients. You will work with advanced instrumentation, laboratory information systems, and standardized testing procedures to ensure results meet quality standards while adhering to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Receive and evaluate specimen quality, ensuring compliance with testing standards.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, performing daily maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Document results, quality control activities, and instrument status with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in proficiency testing programs.
  • Assist in training and orienting new laboratory staff.
  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to changing departmental and patient care needs while demonstrating teamwork and professionalism.

Qualifications
  • One year laboratory experience in an acute care facility or one year of training at St. Bernadine's Medical Center Laboratory with an affiliated MLT program.
  • Chemistry Urinalysis Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory experience preferred
  • Must have completed a two year degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • California license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist

Special Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern clinical laboratory techniques and procedures, aseptic technique and proper safe technique in the handling of hazardous materials and biological specimens. Ability to trouble-shoot procedures and instrumentation and problem-solve effectively.
