The posted compensation range of $54.06 - $70.55 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. As our RN Labor & Delivery, you will help expectant mothers, their newborns, and their families experience safe and supported childbirth so they can achieve positive birth outcomes and confidently transition into parenthood.
Everyday you will monitor maternal and fetal vital signs, administer medications, and assist during childbirth.
You will be expected to collaborate on comprehensive screenings, conduct critical risk assessments, provide vital preventative health education tailored to maternal-fetal health, and expertly coordinate care for diverse patient populations during the perinatal period. To be successful in this role, you must combine robust clinical knowledge of obstetrics and neonatology, technological proficiency, genuine compassion, strong communication skills, and an adaptable approach to learning and patient-centered care.
Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Perinatal Assessment & Care Planning: Complete thorough nursing assessments for expectant mothers and newborns, utilizing all available information to develop and modify individualized care plans specific to their health and age-related needs throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum.
- Maternal and Fetal Monitoring: Continuously track maternal vital signs, contraction patterns, and fetal heart rates, promptly identifying and communicating changes to the healthcare team to ensure the well-being of both mother and baby.
- Medical Intervention & Childbirth Assistance: Initiate IV lines, administer medications (including pain management like epidurals), and expertly assist physicians or midwives during vaginal births and C-sections, guiding mothers through the labor and delivery process.
- Immediate Newborn Care & Assessment: Conduct immediate assessments of the newborn's health, such as Apgar scoring, and provide essential initial care following birth.
- Patient and Family Education & Support: Orient patients and families to the L&D environment, provide emotional support during labor, and thoughtfully educate new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
- Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration: Consistently communicate with other team members regarding each patient's individual and age-specific needs, acting as a role model for patient satisfaction by demonstrating AIDET principles with patients, families, and colleagues.
Job Requirements
Required
- 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery required. We are currently not able to train RN's without the required 1 year of unit specific experience.
- Current California Registered Nurse License
- Registered Nurse: CA
- Basic Life Support - CPR
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 6 - months
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program, within 6 - months
