As a Pre & Post Surgery RN, you will be a central figure in our patient care team, delivering exceptional, compassionate care that truly makes a difference in our patients' lives. You will serve as the patient’s advocate, guiding them through the transition from pre-operative preparation to post-surgical recovery.

Every day, you will leverage your robust clinical knowledge and technological proficiency to provide high-acuity care. You will collaborate with the multidisciplinary surgical team to create and implement individualized care plans, ensuring our patients feel informed, safe, and supported throughout their surgical journey.

To be successful in this role, you must combine strong clinical knowledge with an adaptable approach to patient-centered care, demonstrate clear, professional communication skills when coordinating with the surgical team, maintain technological proficiency to streamline care and documentation processes, and possess a genuine commitment to compassionate care and continuous learning in the surgical setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Clinical Assessment & Documentation: Executes all assessments, admissions, transfers, shift assessments, and discharge planning within established hospital policy timeframes. Continually reassesses patient status, incorporating advanced nursing pathophysiology and assessment skills into daily practice.
  • Critical Thinking & Intervention: Identifies predictable patient problems, life-threatening situations, and high-risk complications. Demonstrates the ability to assess multisystem failure or instability during complex interventions and proactively initiates appropriate, evidence-based responses.
  • Holistic Patient Advocacy: Identifies the psycho-social, spiritual, cultural, and learning needs of patients and families. Evaluates coping mechanisms and support systems, identifying the need for additional resources (such as social services or specialized consults) to ensure a safe discharge.
  • Care Planning & Integration: Initiates, determines, and prioritizes nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes. You will integrate the medical plan of care into a comprehensive nursing plan, utilizing established standards of care and incorporating age-specific needs, conditions, and diagnostic values for high-volume surgical cases.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Acts as a key liaison within the healthcare team. You will effectively communicate and update the plan of care with surgical staff, physicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the plan remains dynamic and reflects input from the patient and their significant others.
  • Risk Anticipation: Recognizes the inter-relationship between physiological data, patient behavior, and clinical symptoms. You will anticipate potential problems for high-risk, complex, or low-volume cases, documenting clear intervention strategies to mitigate risk and ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Environment of Care: Understands the profound effect of the surgical environment on the patient/family. You will provide fundamental care that is reflective of age-specific needs and ensures the accurate implementation of physician orders for all high-volume surgical diagnoses
