Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE 

A CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident is a new graduate direct clinical care registered nurse (RN) who continues todevelop nursing knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors introduced in formal education as they transition intopractice.They are expected to demonstrate the appropriate competency in both core and functional areas, listed below. 

Progression is expected in the areas of leading through mission vision and values, patient/customer focus, takingownership, health care knowledge, teamwork, clinical performance improvement, service excellence, decision makingand critical thinking, and patient safety.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an                Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience

Required Licensure and Certifications 

  • Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state
  • BLS certification - American Heart Association
  • Additional certifications may be required based on population(s) served and services provided

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Ability to: 

  • Deliver excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing
  • goals, planning and implementing intervention, and evaluating patient care outcomes.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret hospital policies and procedures, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports and procedures, and document in the medical record.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, patients, physicians, family members and the general public. 
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as weights, dosages, flow rates, proportions, percentages and volume.
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Critically think and problem solve.
  • Read, wrote and speak English.
  • Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record
  • Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks
  • Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays
  • Must agree to terms and conditions of the program

The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.

Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.

In The Community beyond care inside the hospital Dominican is dedicated to the health and wellness of the Santa Cruz community. Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic a tattoo removal program and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition and in accordance with our mission Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community including children and adults students seniors and the homeless population. Dominican also has received several awards for environmental excellence.
