The posted compensation range of $31.83 - $39.78 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist I at CommonSpirit Health, you will be a vital team member during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical procedures, upholding our core values.


Job Duties:

  • Surgical Preparedness: Demonstrates foundational skills in operating room technology and a basic understanding of surgical procedures, as outlined in core competencies and unit checklists.
  • Aseptic Technique: Consistently applies aseptic techniques in accordance with AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, facility policies, and Universal Precautions.
  • Specimen Handling: Accurately and promptly handles blood and tissue specimens.
  • Instrument & Equipment Care: Ensures proper care and handling of instruments and equipment, adhering to AAMI/ANSI Standards.
  • Workflow Efficiency: Facilitates timely surgical schedule movement through efficient room turnover, effective communication regarding case progress and delays, and proactive anticipation of team needs.
  • Emergency Response: Identifies and responds calmly and efficiently to urgent/emergent situations, accepting direction and demonstrating sound judgment during crises.
  • Procedural Support: Anticipates surgical suite activities based on surgeon preferences, performing tasks with speed, accuracy, and dexterity to expedite procedures.
  • Policy Adherence: Consistently demonstrates knowledge of AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and facility Operating Room Policies through surgical skills and techniques.
  • Quality Improvement: Actively participates in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs.
  • Scope of Practice: Assists with tasks within the Surgical Technologist I scope of practice as needed.
  • Disaster Preparedness: Identifies disaster types and promotes orderly resource activation to protect personnel, clients, families, and the community, including knowledge of Code Announcement definitions and responses.
  • Infection Control: Adheres to and promotes the practices, policies, and procedures of organizational infection control programs.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Knowledgeable in the use, care, and maintenance of all unit equipment.
  • Safety & Health: Consistently exhibits practices that ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, volunteers, and clients.
  • Incident Reporting: Demonstrates appropriate use of Event Report forms for medication occurrences, falls, lost valuables, and employee injuries.
  • Patient & Employee Safety: Creates a safe environment by minimizing exposure through uniform and consistent observance of Standard Precautions.
  • Age-Appropriate Care: Demonstrates age-appropriate communication techniques and safety precautions with patients and families.
  • National Patient Safety Goals: Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently applies the most current Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Compliance Training: Completes required ACE (Annual Compliance Education) training.
  • Code of Conduct: Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with Dignity Health Standards of Conduct and compliance policies.
  • Privacy & Data Security: Completes all required Privacy and Data Security training in a timely manner, annually renewing and abiding by the Dignity Health confidentiality agreement and Network Usage Policy (NUP).
  • Other Duties: Completes additional duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist Training Course.
  • A recent graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist training school or Surgical Technologist training program in the OR.
  • Completion of a clinical internship rotation as part of a technologist training program.
  • Above-average performance rating upon completion of a clinical internship rotation.
  • Completion of Surgical Technologist certification within six (6) months of graduation from a Surgical Technologist training school or training program.

Licensure:

  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR): Certification required within 30 days.

    • Demonstrates basic skills appropriate to the role of the Surgical Technologist.
    • Demonstrates ability to work within a decentralized model of patient care delivery.
    • Demonstrates a caring, compassionate attitude toward others.
    • Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently.
    • Demonstrates ability to work in a stressful environment while remaining calm, efficient, and focused.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately both in oral and written English.
    • Demonstrates ability and willingness to actively participate in continuing education programs, unit-based task forces, and committees.
    • Seeks opportunities for improving job knowledge and skills.
    • Demonstrates ability to assume on-call status as determined by department manager and according to department needs.
