The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $24.39 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

In keeping with the Marian Medical Center health care philosophy, the Unit Clerk/Certified Nursing Assistant serves as unit receptionist, transcribes orders, orders tests, order and monitors supply inventory and coordinates unit phone communication. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse, the Unit Clerk/Certified Nursing Assistant performs unit support activities, such as transporting patients, stocking shelves and cleaning work areas, and maintaining medical records according to standard. Reports observations regarding patient status to the registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse. Provides care for adult patients over 13 years of age.

Job Duties:

  • Assembles admitting records
  • Breaks down charts on discharge
  • Copies charts for transfers/discharges
  • Posts lab/radiology results and utilization review summary sheets
  • Thins ECU and sub-acute charts monthly, or as needed
  • Implements care as assigned by Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
  • Notifies appropriate RN or LVN of changes in orders.
  • Accurately admits new patient when necessary; com-pletes appropriate forms, enters information into computer.
  • Monitors calendar for office visits, lab work, pacemaker checks, admissions for H & P's, 48-hour visits, monthly physician visits and patients annual physicals. Works with admission/discharge planner and nurse to ensure transportation is arranged for patients as needed.
  • Demonstrates basic skills including, but not limited to, patient hygiene, documentation of baseline data, knowledge of mobility and precautions for orthopedic patients and skin care for immobilized patients.
  • Records pertinent information clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates understanding of resident's rights; maintains an environment free of abuse and reports suspected resident abuse to supervisor.
  • Distributes appropriate information regarding patient/ resident to other departments to ensure communication is maintained. Example: Monthly charges for the billing office, weights for Dietary, discharges, admissions and transfers
  • Contributes to the overall management of the unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of office machines, include-ing telephones, call-light system, fax machines, com-puter, and photocopier.
  • Maintains unit in a neat and clean manner. Facilitate room takeover between patients through timely notification of Housekeeping Department.
  • Competently maintains stock supply. Maintains cost-efficient supply of stationary/paper goods and prepares non-stock order forms for monthly orders.
  • Seeks out opportunity to assist team/other co-workers upon completion of assignment.
  • Coordinates unit phone communication.
  • Compliance with policy and procedures
    • Complies with safety, infection control, CHW Integrity Program, and other organizational policies (90-day evals-department specific orientation checklists completed; annual evals -annual competency checklists completed).
    • Complies with the organizations's dress code.
    • Arrives at work on time, as defined by the Attendance and Timeliness Policy.
    • Attends work consistently, as defined by the Attendance and Timeliness Policy.
  • Other Staff Responsibilities
    • Actively supports the organization's mission, philosophy and strategic plan.
    • Demonstrates good time management and priority setting.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of approved Unit Clerk course.
  • One (1) year experience in equivalent position in a health care setting (Preferred).

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant: CA (CNA:CA)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) (within 30 Days of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training:

  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately with people, verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of medical records procedures and long-term care documentation management.
  • Computer literate.
