The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $28.13 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. As a Pharmacy Intern, you'll be a vital part of our pharmacy team, gaining invaluable experience within our healing ministry. This role offers hands-on exposure to medication management and distribution, directly supporting our mission to improve patient health while advancing your professional education.
As our Pharmacy Intern, you will assist the Pharmacist in medication preparation, compounding, inventory management, and distribution so patients receive medications accurately and safely, and you can gain practical experience and insight into your future role as a pharmacist. Your contributions are crucial for maintaining efficient pharmacy operations and upholding state and federal regulations.
Every day, you will use pharmacy automation to optimize safety and efficiency in drug distribution, assist with controlled substances management, and manage medication storage areas. You will be expected to perform specialized narcotic distribution to maintain accurate perpetual inventories, respond appropriately to customers regarding medication distribution, and actively participate in clinical and administrative functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to augment your education.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities:
- General Responsibilities:
Assist the Pharmacist in medication preparation, compounding, inventory management, and distribution.
Practice in the inpatient, retail, specialty, or ambulatory setting depending on assignment.
Assist with controlled substances management, meeting DEA, FDA, and state regulations.
Access and manages medication storage areas using pharmacy automation.
Field and triages calls and questions regarding medication distribution, assisting other caregivers within their scope of practice.
Actively participate in clinical and administrative functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to augment education and gain insight and practical experience.
Progress in responsibilities throughout their time with the organization and in their didactic education.
- Inpatient Specific Responsibilities:
Use pharmacy automation to optimize safety and efficiency in drug distribution.
Compound IV Admixture of sterile and non-sterile products according to USP and Board of Pharmacy requirements (if applicable by job assignment).
Repackage medication into unit dose following USP regulations.
Perform specialized narcotic distribution, maintains accurate perpetual inventories and identifies discrepancies.
Manage pharmaceutical and supply inventory; completes cycle counts and monitors medication inventory levels and expiration dates.
Perform nursing unit/clinical area medication storage area inspections.
Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately and independently.
Respond appropriately to customers (healthcare professionals, patients, families, and other caregivers) and other requests via telephone or in person to appropriately manage issues and provide follow-up.
Participate in clinical and administrative functions as assigned by pharmacy leadership.
To be successful in this role, you must be actively enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program, demonstrate extreme accuracy and attention to detail, and possess a strong foundational understanding of pharmaceutical principles with a commitment to continuous learning and patient safety.

Required Education and Experience
- Current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Active Pharmacist Intern License in good standing in the state in which the employee works, PHARMINTERN:WA
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Verbal and written communication, Knowledge of drug names desired with the expectation of continuing education on new drugs. Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to the pharmacy profession. Skills in multi-disciplinary team involvement with direct patient care. Must be available to work rotating shifts and weekends.
