The posted compensation range of $27.51 - $35.81 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Franciscan Medical Group, as part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently seeking a full time Clinic Medical Assistant - Ortho Cast Tech for our Franciscan foot and Ankle Associates in Tacoma, WA.Seeking a MA/Cast tech for a team-based environment in a busy Foot & Ankle clinic. Ample hands-on patient care in an ambulatory outpatient clinic setting. Gorgeous view of Commencement Bay. No nights, major holidays or weekends. Excellent Benefits Package. Free covered parking.
Job Summary:
- Applies and removes orthopedic appliances, including casts, splints and braces.
- Educates patients regarding proper care and application of appliances under the direction of the ordering provider. Assists physicians/mid-level provider with pin removal, incision and drainage, setting fractures, joint injections and other procedures. Requires knowledge of sterile technique and of orthopedic supplies, 1 year of experience, and certification by the National Association of Orthopedic Technicians or American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP).
Essential Duties:
- Greet and prepare patients for the practitioner. Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problem. Administer ordered medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular or intradermal routes within the scope of the Medical Assistant guidelines/licensing.
- Assist with diagnostic tests and clinical procedures to appropriate level of training and established procedures. Apply and remove orthopedic appliances, including casts, splints and braces under the direction of the ordering provider. Assist physicians/mid-level providers with pin removal, incision and drainage, setting fractures, joint injections and other procedures.
- Educate patients regarding proper care and application of appliances under the direction of the ordering provider.
- Manage patient flow ensuring enough time for patient and family education. Provide patient mobility assistance, as necessary.
- Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to Franciscan Medical Group Exposure Control Plan; anticipate provider’s needs for medications, supplies and equipment and plan accordingly.
- Schedule patient appointments and perform other clerical duties as needed. Screen, communicate and respond to patient needs appropriately.

Job Requirements
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent) plus completion of a Medical Assistant program and one (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant and/or Cast Technician in a clinic or acute care setting required.
License/Certification:
- Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Certified.
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification
- Certification by the National Association of Orthopedic Technicians or American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) within 6 months of hire.
