The posted compensation range of $168.94 - $236.51 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. As our Region Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), you will be a pivotal executive leader responsible for driving strategic growth and ensuring market success across your assigned geographic region within CommonSpirit Health. This role serves as the critical link between supporting CommonSpirit Health's system strategy and successfully developing and implementing regional and market-specific strategies. This role reports directly to the respective Regional President and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer of CommonSpirit Health at the system level.
Every day, you will leverage your extensive experience in healthcare strategy and growth to identify and capitalize on opportunities, optimize market position, and lead and manage region- and market-level strategy team members, empowering them to drive market position and enhance market essentiality across the region. You will synthesize industry trends, market statistics, competitive intelligence, and data-driven insights to craft and effectively communicate comprehensive, differentiated strategies for each market in the region. They will translate CommonSpirit's overarching Mission, Vision, and Values into impactful, region/market- specific actions, ensuring seamless integration and execution of system-wide strategic priorities within the regional and market context.
To be successful in this role, you must be a leader who can leverage system functions and resources to drive strategic implementation, fostering collaboration with a diverse network of system, regional, market, and care-site colleagues, as well as external stakeholders, to drive strategic success.
Responsibilities:
• System to Regional/Market Linkage: Serves as the primary conduit for translating CommonSpirit Health's system strategy into actionable regional and market strategies. Ensures regional and market strategic plans drive market essentiality and are fully integrated with and contribute to the system's overall success.
• Growth & Strategy Development: Develop and drive strategies to enhance market growth, expand access to care across the continuum as applicable, and ensure long-term financial sustainability. Identifies and cultivates opportunities for transformational growth, new revenue streams, and local innovation, partnering with the system office to launch and scale groundbreaking initiatives. This includes guiding initiatives related to network adequacy, ambulatory growth, diversification opportunities, partnerships, and actively pursuing market consolidation opportunities.
• Strategic Intelligence: Leverages comprehensive data analytics and market intelligence to generate strategic insights, identify trends, and inform data-driven decisions that optimize regional and market performance and positioning. Oversees and directs elements of financial business case development for strategic growth and capital initiatives, including development of realistic assumptions and implementation plans.
• Service Line & Programmatic Strategy: In partnership with clinical service line leaders, oversees the development of robust service line and programmatic strategies, including comprehensive planning, rationalization, and integration efforts. Ensures regional service line and COE development supports and, where appropriate, scales system-level service excellence and specialization. This includes content knowledge and leadership in developing and implementing initiatives, including but not limited to: CIN Development, network integrity and adequacy, ambulatory and digital diversification, physician alignment, value-based care and population health, academic partnerships, clinical service optimization, and portfolio management.
• Leads the division in choosing, prioritizing, and implementing key expansion and growth initiatives; plans joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and affiliations with regional hospitals, physicians, and other providers to grow the base of the organization and overall CHI-FH market share.
• Provides executive oversight to ensure the full continuum of a superior marketing and branding program, including marketing strategies, plans, and activities for the division and affiliates at the program, service, and service line levels.
Job Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Administration, or related field required.
- Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent) required.
- 12 years of experience in healthcare strategy, growth, consulting, ambulatory development, mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships or a related field; at least 8 of these years must be in a management role; OR an equivalent combination of education and significant job-related experience.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, business development, and growth roles within the healthcare industry. This experience must span multiple healthcare organizations or diverse market environments, demonstrating a breadth of strategic insight and adaptability.
Progressive management work experience in healthcare- related strategic planning/growth/development, marketing/communications, system integration, medical staff/technology expansion and/or community/government relations in a large academic medical center or multi-hospital health system.
