Responsibilities

The RN – House Supervisor directs and supervises nursing staff under the guidance of department managers in their absence. Promotes and maintains continuity of care for patients and is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating all care during assigned shift. Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of CommonSpirit Health.

  • Responsible for supervising nursing units in the absence of unit managers.
  • Active participant of calculating and monitoring Hours Per Patient Days along with acuity of patients, in relationship to staffing units accurately, safely, and cost effective under the direction of the unit manager.
  • Utilizes nursing personnel effectively, assists with required scheduling, staffing and assignments, and collaborates with other department managers/supervisors/charge to ensure smooth coordination of services to patients, enhances patient flow within the facility, and efficient admission/discharge/transfer processes
  • Receives report from off-going shift, give report to oncoming shift, and makes rounds
  • Open on-going dialog with unit managers.
  • Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 1 year experience in the discipline, Required.
  • OR 3 years’ experience in the discipline, Required.
  • OR Master’s Degree and no experience, Required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of RN experience, and one (1) year of leadership experience, Required.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse: ND (RN:ND), Required upon hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR), Required upon hire.
