Responsibilities

The RN-Program Coord Stroke serves as the clinical expert serving as a role model, educator, and resource person to facilitate safe passage for patients with CVA/TIAs.  This position will ensure professional development of clinical staff and improve community awareness regarding stroke.  Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization.  This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of CommonSpirit Health.

  • Coordinate and maintain the certification of the Acute Stroke Ready Hospital.  Once achieved follow appropriate guidelines/recommendations to maintain certification.
  • Identify and follow patients with stroke during hospitalization for the purpose of applying evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes, both physiological and financial.
  • Mentor staff in using/fostering the use of evidence-based tools to improve the care of a stroke patient (stroke order sets, nursing care resource guide, patient educational tools). Facilitate neurological assessment skills for caregivers across the spectrum of stroke care.  Maintain hospital-wide/system-wide communication regarding Stroke Program.
  • Develop and facilitate ongoing community and professional education programs.  Assist with in-patient stroke education.
  • Participate actively in the continued development of improved care practices for patients, including practice guidelines and protocols through the use of evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrate motivation for continued growth as an educator, and by active review of current literature, professional networking, and attendance at relevant seminars/conferences.   Communicate educational offerings to Stroke Team and keep track of the team’s stroke educational hours.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Of Nursing, Required. 

Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse: North Dakota (RN:ND), Required. 
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR), Required. 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Preferred.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Preferred.
