The posted compensation range of $80.07 - $107.23 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a full time day Nurse Shift Manager, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care adds tremendous value to our nursing team. 

Every day you will advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.

To thrive in this role, you need to be accountable and confident. You're an excellent communicator in 1:1 interactions and in front of groups. It's also important for you to be comfortable holding tough conversations, as you are responsible for the performance of your people and your unit.

In this role you will:
  • Supervise nursing staff assigned to a particular shift. Assign patients to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the patient's condition and the employee's skill level.
  • Assess, monitor, and educate the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and move proactively to respond to them.
  • Oversee stocking of supplies and updating patient records to ensure that the nursing floor is ready for subsequent shifts.

Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center of Excellence. The Neuroscience Unit is the designated unit where all Stroke Patients are admitted/transferred. We are also the designated unit for our Spine Surgery patients and plan to see Joint Commission Designation as a Spine Center of Excellence in the upcoming year or two. The strength of the unit lies in the exceptional competence, dedication, and clinical judgement of the staff. Each team member consistently demonstrates a high level of critical thinking, ensuring that patient care is timely, thoughtful, individualized, and evidence-based. We work closely with Dignity's Neuro Institute which provides many opportunities for ongoing education. The Neuroscience Unit is comprised of 30private rooms and located on the 5th floor of the McAuley Tower. Our patients have a beautiful view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the East side of the unit, where they can watch the sunrise and enjoy natural light all day. What truly sets this team apart is their shared commitment to excellence. They go beyond routine care--advocating for patients, supporting one another,and maintaining a standard of practice that promotes safety, dignity, and trust. Our RNs participate in daily Multidisciplinary Rounds, along with Physicians, PT/OT/ST staff, Pharmacists, Social Worker, Care Coordinators, Stroke Coordinator, and occasionally a representative from Administration.Their professionalism and dedication create an environment where patients and families feel confident in the care they receive.


Job Requirements

Required: 

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (e.g., ADN).

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.

  • Current Bachelors in nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field preferred

    • Completion of Bachelors in nursing (BSN) or related field within 3 years of hire

Licensure: 

  • Current CA RN licensure

  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association

  • American Heart Association Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) certificate within 6 months of hire
