The posted compensation range of $34.69 - $51.59 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Connection Center Virtual Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the patient care team, responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered nursing care remotely through telephonic and video  interactions. This role encompasses the full scope of the nursing process, including comprehensive virtual assessment, nursing diagnosis, symptom/problem identification,  outcomes identification, planning, implementation of care, and evaluation. The Virtual RN leverages advanced clinical judgment and evidence-based protocols to provide health education, nursing advice, and facilitate timely access to healthcare services across diverse patient populations and geographical locations. Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, the Virtual RN ensures adherence to professional standards of practice, regulatory guidelines, and organizational policies, while utilizing advanced technology to optimize patient outcomes and engagement.

Conduct comprehensive virtual nursing assessments through telephonic and secure video interactions, gathering detailed patient history, chief complaint, current symptoms, and pertinent medical information.

Apply the nursing process to analyze subjective and objective data; identify actual or potential health problems and determine appropriate urgency and disposition based on clinical judgment and approved evidence-based decision support tools/protocols.

Collaborate with patients, caregivers, and the healthcare team to identify measurable goals and establish patient-centered plans of care, including self-management strategies and red-flag indicators for seeking higher levels of care.


Implement care plans by providing clear, evidence-based nursing advice, health education, and symptom management guidance, covering immediate care, chronic disease management, and preventative health maintenance.

Instruct patients on the correct use of self-monitoring devices (e.g., pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, blood glucose monitors) and at-home treatments (e.g., wound care, breathing treatments).

Provide comprehensive medication management guidance, including recommending approved Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications following specific protocols and providing directions on dosage, frequency, and contraindications.


Perform both inbound and outbound communications with patients, pharmacies, providers, hospitals, and other healthcare entities to facilitate patient care, respond to inquiries, and provide information.

Communicate lab and diagnostic test results to patients following provider review, accurately evaluating and addressing patient questions.

Evaluate patient response to interventions and advice, assessing understanding and capability to follow instructions, and revising care plans as needed through shared decision-making.


Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of all patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other systems, adhering to medical, legal, statistical, and departmental standards.

Utilize and skillfully navigate electronic decision support tools, EHR, internet navigation, and virtual communication platforms, often concurrently.

Facilitate patient access to primary care providers, specialists, healthcare facilities, and community resources.


Act as a patient and consumer advocate, resolving problems and communicating needs and concerns to appropriate resources and the care team.

Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure coordinated and continuous patient care.

Mentor and provide leadership to support staff, fostering a collaborative and professional team environment.


Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, federal healthcare program requirements, and the specific state Board of Nursing rules where the patient is physically located during the encounter.

Participate actively in quality improvement outcomes measurement processes, data collection, and analysis.

Meet minimum established quality and productivity standards and adhere to workforce schedules to facilitate call center metrics.


Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the highest ethical standards as defined by CommonSpirit Health's Ethical and Religious Directives and Standards of Conduct.

Adapt communication style to patients representing diverse personal, professional, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Job Requirements

Satisfactory completion of a formal Registered Nurse program (e.g., Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or diploma from an accredited school of nursing) upon hire

and

Minimum of three (3) years of clinical RN experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting required

and

Bachelors Of Science Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) upon hire Preferred
and
Previous triage  experience (Urgent Care, Emergency Department nursing accepted)
